One main focus of the CIS Student Council is to help the students gain experiences while representing their peers and school. For the second semester, we wanted to challenge the students to complete a project based learning assignment of their choosing. CIS Student Council has students represented from 4th, 5th and 6th grades. For the first project, the 5th graders decided to raise money for the Menard County Animal Control. They decided that selling 50/50 tickets at an AHS basketball game would be an easy way for them to get out in the public to work on their verbal skills. The students colored posters, set up the booth, measured out tickets, and yelled out to gain the attention of spectators at the game. At the end, the students helped count out the money realizing that they had just raised $224 during their 50/50 raffle. The winner was drawn and the split was going to be $112 for the winner and $112 for the students to spend on the Menard County Animal Control. They were very excited and felt accomplished. The winning ticket belonged to the Hopkins family who DONATED ALL of the money back for the students to spend on the animals. Next up, the students will be learning how to budget their $224 to get the most items or value that they can for the animals. THANK YOU to all who supported the CIS Student Council on their first project!
